The end of the 2011 short course season

Daniel ended the 2011 short course season with a bang.

Home from Jr. Nationals

He was able to attend the Jr. Nationals meet in Orlando Fla. While competing there, despite coming down with a horrible cold, Daniel posted best times in his main events. He swam 100 yard breastroke in 58.61 sec.! He also got a best time in 200 breast with 2:07.74. Neither of these times were quite as fast as he would have liked, but they were best times!
At Senior Sectionals

The boy loves his music!

Doing the breastroke thing.

While in Orlando, he got to meet one of the college coaches that have been e mailing him. Due to NCAA regulations, the coach couldn't say much to Daniel. He just encouraged Daniel to keep them posted with his times. Sure do wonder where the Lord will lead him after high school??

Here they grow again

As anyone who has had kids can attest, they are constantly growing and changing, sometimes in what seems like the blink of a eye.

I have a mat at Elijah's place at the table that helps keep the table clean. I have a glass covered table and the mat keeps food from getting under the glass. You can see the blue mat in this picture.

A few nights ago at dinner, I noticed that Elijah had moved his plate off of the mat and onto the table close to my place. I didn't say anything, but waited to watch the next night, when the same thing happened.

He's decided that he doesn't need the mat anymore. Why? Because he's noticed that no one else eats with a mat. (Notice I didn't say that they didn't need one, just that they didn't have one. Big difference!  A few of us could certainly use a mat like Elijah's)

Abbey loves to draw and paint on her easel. I happened to look at it the other day and saw something that amazed me.

Unprompted by anyone, she had written her name and Elijah's, and drawn a picture of them together. The "j" in "Elijah" is backwards, but it still is pretty cool. She has just picked up on writing his name all by herself.

Of course, I called her in and made a big deal of her accomplishment.

Proud Mom that I am, I am thankful for the signs that they are developing normally. But, part of me wants to turn my head and pretend not to see the obvious.... that they are growing up ever so fast.

Home again, home again...

I've been gone for a few days. I got to visit another culture...the culture of Las Vegas. I must say it is quite different from my every day culture.

John has to attend a trade show in Vegas every three years. This year I was able to join him. I flew out with him on Monday and came home on Wed. He will not be home until Saturday.

On our flight out there, we saw the grand canyon.

So beautiful, you can just see a Creator's hands all over it.

Then we landed in Las Vegas, while it is quite an interesting place, one can surely see the difference in God's beautiful creations and Man's. The sights of Las Vegas were eyecatching.

This is a sculpture outside of one of the hotels.

But, not awe inspiring. When I looked out my 46th floor panoramic window, it wasn't the buildings that my eyes gravitated to. It was the gorgeous mountains, monuments created by God.

Our hotel, Trump,  by the way, was by far the fanciest one I've ever stayed in. We had a suite that was huge, complete with a jacuzzi! The Trump hotel is one of few that doesn't have a casino in it. I found that refreshing. I was quite surprised by the looks of the casinos. I guess my mind pictured the ones in movies like James Bond. The places I saw were nothing like that. To me, they looked more like glorified truck stops. Gambling isn't anywhere near appealing to me. I did put three dollars in a slot machine, then promptly decided that throwing away money just isn't my idea of fun!

John and I had some great times exploring the city. One night we watched a band perform at B.B. King's restaurant. Our time together was fun and refreshing.

On Tuesday, I went shopping and bought 2 possible dresses to wear to the wedding. I enjoyed picking out presents for the little (and big) ones back home.

Speaking of back home... During this trip, I became convinced and grateful for the wonderful friends God has blessed us with. One friend kept our two along with her three. I knew that mine were well loved and cared for. She managed to get a picture of her "three day quints".

Another friend's generosity also allowed me to go on my mini vacation. Sunday, before I left, I found a tick on Abbey's neck. I removed it, but the head stayed embedded in her skin. I pick and prodded, but couldn't get it out. My wonderful friend offered to take Abbey to the Dr. for me on Monday. The Dr. was able to remove the tick head while I was in the air on my way to Las Vegas! Praise God for friends!!!

So, now I'm home, sweet, home. While I work through the mounds of laundry, part of my heart is still in Las Vegas....

Two more sleeps  'till he's home!!!

Bewilderment

Sometimes I just have to shake my head in bewildered disgust. I have a hard time dealing with man's sinful nature, especially when I'm the one getting sinned against.

A few weeks ago,(the day after my birthday)  I went to Wal Mart to go shopping. Luckily, Daniel was staying with the little ones, so I was alone. As I'm coming out to my car, a less than above reproach looking man started coming toward me. Now, I've read the "hoaxed" e mails about crime and Wal Mart, but I've also read enough police blotters to know that it doesn't matter where you are, you need to be on guard in parking lots. So, I was on guard and really didn't want to acknowledge this person. But, keeping his distance, he said, "Someone hit your car." Ok, now he has my attention. I go around to the other side, and sure enough, the rear panel was sticking out and there was a considerable dent in my car. The man saw the whole thing, but failed to get a license tag number. He suggested that I see if the surveillance camera could be of any help.

I went back inside the store and talked to a manager. She told me that they couldn't look at the security footage. This can only be done by the police. So, I had to call the police. As I'm waiting for the police, a woman drives up and says she saw the person who hit my car. After plowing into my car, he got out, looked at my car, and then looked at the trailer he had hit me with, and then got right back in his truck and drove away! The nerve of some people???  Of course, the lady did not get a license number either.

When the police arrived, they took my information and said they would look at the video, but really didn't think they would be able to see the license number. They did go into the store afterward, but I can't imagine them giving this little fender bender very much attention, and I really don't blame them. With all the things they have to deal with, I'm sure my banged up van is considerably quite benign.

Grrrrr, it's so annoying! I had parked within the little lines and everything! How callous, irresponsible, immoral and many other adjectives I can think of (all bad)! To add insult to injury, after talking with our insurance company, I found out that we will have to pay the $500 deductible to have it fixed. Life just isn't fair.

As I type that, I'm reminded of what I used to tell my kids. They would always say, "That's not fair!" To which I'd reply, "Nope, it's not. If life was fair, we'd have to pay for our own sins."  So, as He often does, God reminds me that I'm not perfect, and my sins are just as bad and numerous as the man who hit me. Nothing like the proverbial point one finger and three point back, illustration. But, I still argue, my sins didn't cost an innocent someone else $500! To which, I'm reminded, "Nope but they did cost an innocent man his life!" Alrighty, I guess I hush up for now, 'nuff said!

Later that afternoon, the florist pulled into the driveway. (Don't you just love seeing the florist truck pull into the driveway?) He brought these beautiful flowers.

They were from my Mom and Dad, who felt bad because they forgot to call me on my birthday.  They certainly didn't need to do that, but it was fun to get the bouquet and enjoy looking at lovely flowers! Kind of took the edge off of my anger at my little hit and run friend.

I don't know when we will get my car fixed. It's such a pain to be without a car. But, in the meantime every time I look at the dent, I'm going to remember that Christ gave his life, not only for me, but for the gutless so and so that hit my car and took off!

So, I started this post bewildered at the sinfulness of people, and I end it still bewildered, but now in awe at a God that loves sinful people so much that He would die for them! Oh, what love the Father has lavished on us!

Mar. 11- Three Month Countdown

To a wedding that is!!!

Time is speeding right along to Beth and Greg's wedding. Many things have been done, many more remain to be done. We had the pleasure of going with Beth to pick out her veil a few weeks ago. She tried on her dress and we got to see the wedding attire in it's completion.

John came along; he was one of 2 males in the whole store

Nana was also along for the ride.

The store was absolutely packed! I'm telling you, there is no shortage of folks getting married. Beth was successful in her quest of the perfect veil. Yes, I did take pictures, but nope, not gonna post until after June 11th!

Guess who had a birthday?

I did!!
The little cake was baked by Abbey in her kitchen in her room. She made sure it was put with the big cake!

Me, the birthday girl!

Mesmerized

Anna and Jamie were there

Why use a fork, when you can use your fingers.

We won't mention the number of years, but if I have to get older, then we need to have cake and celebrate!!

Stomach bug positives and negatives

These past three days, I've been totally down for the count. Now, as the dust, (literally,in the case of my neglected house), settles and I'm starting to recover I can see some positives and negatives of this horrible thing.

Positive #1
After loosing everything in my digestive system for two days, I can now eat whatever I want without regard to the calorie or fat content!

Negative #1
I still don't feel like eating anything. Not even chocolate! If you know me you know I must have been sick, really sick, to not want chocolate.

Positive #2
I discovered that my kids can basically keep themselves alive for 10 hours with minimal help from me, and a lot of help from the DVR.

Negative #2
I now face the aftermath of my kids and the house taking care of itself. Can you say 10 loads of laundry, squished poptart in the den chair, or mud all over the kitchen floor??

Positive #3
I realized how blessed I am to be healthy and able to take care of my family! I thanked God so much for the gift of good health.

Negative #3
It took getting an awful stomach bug to completely make me stop and realize a that I take advantage of  a tremendous gift every day, instead of thanking my good Lord for the blessing of being healthy!

So, if you've missed me in bloggy world, this is why I've been absent. Mom, I know you're going through withdrawal, I'll try to get you a post again later today.

Meeting Nanny Harry

A few weeks ago, Abbey, Elijah and I traveled to my parents house to meet my grandmother. Nanny Harry, as I've always called her, is 91 years old. She is in relatively good health, but has recently become unable to live by herself. Yes, believe it or not, she was living alone until a few weeks ago!  Sadly for her, she has had to moved in with my parents. Because it isn't a great idea to leave her alone, my Mom and Dad aren't able to just up and come for a visit like they used to.  So, we took a road trip to see them. Nanny Harry has never met Elijah and has only seen Abbey on one other occasion. While there, we celebrated Elijah's and my birthdays.
The birthday boy, with Nana's dog, Mac

Grandaddy and Nana gave him a tool bench.

Complete with safety goggles

Which he shared with Nanny Harry

Abbey loved her new paint set.

While none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, when you know someone who has reached 91 years, you really appreciate that fact that all of our days are numbered.  I'm thankful that Abbey and Elijah will have these pictures to remind them of their only living great-grandmother.

My youngest turns three!

 Three years old!!
Elijah celebrated his third birthday on the 22nd. For his birthday dinner, this culinary connoisseur chose to go to "Eee, Iii, Eee, Iiii, Ooo", or in language other than Elijah's...McDonalds. This is his favorite, running a close second to, "Chig-A-Lay".

Love those french fries!

Birthday hug from Abbey

We all enjoyed cake back at home.

Then presents

The next day, playing with his t-ball set.

Elijah has grown soo much in the past year. The Dr. actually commented on the difference between last year and this one. He is still not on the American growth charts, but he is growing. He currently weighs 27 pounds and is 34.75 inches tall. He has gained 4.5 pounds and grown 2.75 inches in the past year.

Elijah had his last speech visit with Ms. Stephanie
We have seen great strides in his speech. He still has some issues, but Stephanie thinks that they will all resolve with time.

Elijah's very favorite toys are cars and trucks. He will entertain himself forever with a little matchbox car. He and Abbey play together very well now.(They also fight together very well!). A favorite game is "hide and seek". He will hide and while looking for him, if you listen, you will hear a faint, "Woo-hoo", coming from Elijah's hiding space.

Elijah sleeps through the night and takes long naps during the day. He is still a very slow eater, but will eat just about anything. He can count to 15 and is still working on his colors. He is potty trained for BM, but not for urine.

Overall, it has been a wonderful year. Elijah has grown and developed. We're so glad that God brought us together.  He loves his family and I can promise that the feeling is greatly reciprocated.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELIJAH,
WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR YOU!
