A Wedding! Done a month earlier

Daniel and Sara were scheduled to get married on April 25th. We had booked and chosen the menu for a rehearsal dinner, the venue was chosen, the clothes were ordered and the honeymoon booked. On Wednesday, March 11th, I got a text from Sara. She asked what we were doing the coming weekend. John, Sr. was in Las Vegas and wouldn't be home until 2 am on Saturday, which I told her. She then explained that she had flown to see her dad and he did not look well at all. Her dad had been diagnosed with cancer a bit before Christmas. They were thinking about having a small, family wedding that next weekend! (They had to do it that weekend as her Dad's wife's mom was going into the hospital for cancer surgery the coming Monday.). We said we would do everything in our power to be there. The next day, they set the time for 5 pm, Saturday, March 15th. Daniel wasn't even in Charleston at the time. I immediately called all the John in LV, the kids, mom and dad. I began searching for a place for us to spend the night. Amazingly everyone was free and completely willing to drop everything to be there for Daniel and Sara. John, Jr began learning the guitar piece that Daniel had written for Sara to walk in to. I had a fancy dress that I loved, but this was going to be a much scaled down affair...so I had to go shopping. Beth offered to pay a photographer to record the day.

So we were set.....then COVID! The airlines started cutting back. I got a call from John at 2 am Sat. night. Out of the blue, they had cancelled his flight! I went to my knees as he raced through the airport and after a very tense hour, he found another flight. But, it wouldn't get to Raleigh until around 11. We are 5 hours from Charleston, but at least he would get home. Sara moved the wedding to 6 and we rushed to Charleston as soon as John could get home.

The wedding was beautiful and very poignant. (Sara's Dad got to walk her down the aisle. Sadly, he passed away about a week later). The grand girls got to wear their lovely dresses. As we all were waiting for the girls to make it down the aisle, we heard a cute as pie, loud voice say, "Hey Gools, you drawping all yo flowahs". The whole place burst out laughing. It was our precious Waverly worried about her fellow flower girls dropping their lovely flowers!

So, John and I welcome another daughter to our family. Sara is perfect for Daniel, loves the Lord and serving others. I'm so proud to be her Mother In Law and watch the Lord as he builds their life together!
