Christmas in March!

A bucket list opportunity came to our town and I asked John to give it to me for Christmas. Elton John was coming for his final tour.

Many of my teenage nights and days were spent listening to Elton John. Of course, "Your Song" was my very favorite. Of course he played that one.... major bucket list check off.

It was a wonderful concert, he played non-stop for 2 hours, then came out for an encore, ending at 11.

This is how he left the stage for the last time. He explained that he had two little kids at home that needed his time, so this would be his last tour.

It was a dream come true, but it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun, if there had been anyone there besides this guy!

My Dad's birthday-March 2019

My dad turned 80 years young this year. He didn't want a big party, so we celebrated him with just us here at our house. I had Anna's girls while she and Jamie went Missouri to get their new doggie...Poco. We had cake and Waverly sang to him!

Grand kid visits

We love to have our grand daughters come to visit. The month of Feb. we had all of our grand daughters come and spend a few days with us.

First Evie Claire.
She got a new Scruff A Luv...

Had a dinosaur bath bomb
 went scooter riding
 Did some letter crafts

 and went to the park

 Had s'mores

A couple of weeks later the Sanchez girls came for a long weekend, while their parents drove to Missouri to pick up a new dog. (Their beloved shorky, Rock, died unexpectantly when hit by a car) We stayed busy! This was Lyra's first time spending the night with us without her mom, and she did wonderfully!

Elijah and his little buddy, Lyra!

While A and E were at co-op, the girls and I went to Marbles.

This nut....she put balls in her shirt and said, "Look...I've got boobies!"
Abbey and John went to a concert, so Elijah, the girls and I made cookies.
 The end results.
The next day, we had a swim meet. Oh, boy! I was so dreading this. I was armed with barbies, leap pads, I Pad, snacks, crayons and games. We survived. I know it wasn't fun for anyone, but they all were troupers!

 Abbey and her friends

Everyone behaved so well, Papa took a little siesta!

A Rare Treat- ACC Tournament

John and I got a rare treat this year. We got to attend the ACC tournament and, to make it super special, Carolina was playing! John's company had tickets and his customer wanted to take his wife,
so I got to tag along. Beth kept Abbey and Elijah.
We went in a special entrance away from the maddening crowd and walked right in. Our seats were about 10 rows from the floor!

What a neat treat!

later, we saw ourselves on TV

Good thing I didn't get used to this. We probably will never get to have seats at the ACC tournament again!

2019 Field Trips

We did not go on quite as many field trips as the previous year. But we still got out quite a bit. I previously posted about Old Salem and the trip there.

On February 13 we joined a Homeschoolers garden club for a presentation on Birds of Prey. The many brought two birds which we got to see up close, a falcon and an owl.

Elijah won the door prize of a bird feeder

We joined this same group on 5/13 at the NC State Arboretum for a program on Pollinators.

We joined Anna and the girls for two field trips.
The first was at the Charlotte Hawkins Brown memorial close to Greensboro. Charlotte Hawkins Brown started the first school for Black kids. It was Homeschool Day and they had several games set up to help the kids understand what it was like for black kids during the early 1900's

We also met Anna and the girls for Homeschool Day at Alamance Battleground

We joined our homeschool group on two field trips...
The National Weather Station...

and the waste water treatment plant...

 Dirty water

Cleaning with ultraviolet light
 Clean water

Yep, that's what you think that is being removed from the new, incoming water
and it certainly did have a smell
 Water microbes under a microscope
 Before and after water

Such a big perk of homeschooling is field trips!
