On Saturday, the 12th, we toured Beijing. The first place we went was Tiananmen Square, but they were not allowing visitors. They had lots of security. Our guide didn't know if it was because of the recent uprising in the Urmqui province, or if it was because of the upcoming National Day celebration. Since we couldn't go to Tiananmen Square, we went directly to The Forbidden City. The Forbidden City backs up to Tiananmen Square. It was the home of the Chinese Emperors. It is huge, and has many beautiful rooms and buildings. We were all dressed in our Carolina Garb in order to get a picture of us at the Great Wall to send to the alumni magazine.
