We traveled to Richmond to cheer on our favorite Seahawk swimmer.
As I spoke of in previous posts, Daniel had had several travails over this past season. He didn't get to train as he had wanted as a result of injuries, sickness and other issues with the team, still he achieved best times and made it back to finals in his events.
The last night before finals, all of the seniors were announced.
The senior guys
Abbey got into the festivities with her hair.
Elijah loves to imitate his big brother. Daniel gave him his cap when he was done with his last swim.
It came time for his very last swim as a collegiate athlete, 200 breast.
He gave it his all.
Then he received his congratulations from other swimmers and his coaches
After all the hugs and well wishes, Daniel asked me and John to meet him at the stairs. He came running up with tears in his eyes and hugged us, thanking us for all our support and telling us how much he appreciated us. It was a very moving moment. A moment that a mom treasures in her heart. He really is a special guy. I'm so incredibly proud of him.
Afterward the moms of the Raleigh swimmers posed with our athletes.
And so, it ends....16 years of swimming! On to graduation and then the coached becomes the coach. Where he'll end up working, I really don't know at this point. I do know that God will guide him, if he lets Him. I pray it's close to home, but am trying, (emphasis on trying), to hold him loosely.
On to graduation!!!
